Bubblemaker and Seal Team

Bubblemaker and Seal Team

Have you kids experience SCUBA diving under the direct supervision of a PADI Pro where they will take their first breaths underwater in water shallower than 2 metres/6 feet.  The minimum age is 8 years old and they can do a trial session, Bubblemaker, or take a 5 session course, Seal Team, and learn skills to prepare them for their full certification course at age 10.  Once they are 10 years old, they can qualify to take the PADI (JR.) Open Water course so these classes are a great way for them to ‘test the water’ before they hit double digits!

Bubblemaker is as fun as it sounds – a chance for kids to blow bubbles by scuba diving. Children who are at least 8 years old can use scuba gear to breathe underwater and swim around in shallow water.

Bubblemakers get a chance to:

  • Experience scuba diving under the direct care and supervision of a PADI Pro.
  • Take their first breaths underwater in water shallower than 6 feet.
  • Learn about and use scuba diving equipment.
  • Have lots of fun.
  • Have a party or celebrate a birthday by throwing a memorable, exciting Bubblemaker event with friends and family at Diver City SCUBA.

A child must be 8 years old or older. Kids must be comfortable in the water, but no prior experience is necessary. Parental approval is required.

  • Use basic SCUBA gear and breathe underwater
  • Equalize ears and mask
  • Recover and clear a regulator
  • Clear a mask of water
  • Breathe from an alternate air source
  • Maintain proper buoyancy
  • Demonstrate good surface habits
  • Communicate underwater with hand signals

Discover SCUBA Diving

Discover SCUBA Diving

Price: $40 per person.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to breathe underwater? If you want to find out, but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course, Discover SCUBA Diving will let you try SCUBA to see if you like it.

The Discover SCUBA Diving experience is geared for everyone 10 years of age and older and includes 2 hours of fun!  Our instructional staff will show you a short video and then it’s off to the pool to learn some basic SCUBA techniques.

While not an actual SCUBA certification, during the Discover SCUBA Diving experience you’ll learn how to use scuba equipment in shallow water and get a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world!

Contact Us For More Information!

During our regular pool sessions, either Pan Am or Cindy Klassen, you will be paired up with a divemaster or team of divemasters depending on your class size.  Typically we keep these class sizes small but if you are a group we will ensure that we have enough staff for you all to enjoy the experience.

You will have 1 hour of briefing to understand the equipment and skills that you will be practicing.  Then you will start in shallow water and work your way to the deep end if you are comfortable.

This is a great first step, before a full certification, if you are unsure if breathing underwater is for you!

Do you have a pool in your backyard.. or know someone that does?

We are able to offer the same experience in the comfort of your own oasis.  Working the same as the Discover SCUBA’s at the City Pools, we will have 1 hour of briefing then 1 hour of in water time.

For the more adventurous type, we can also offer a Discover SCUBA at West Hawk Lake.

Though most of the equipment would be the same, you will also be fitted for a 2 piece 7mm wetsuit, hood, gloves and boots.  You are responsible for the transportation of the equipment and yourself.

Again, you will have 1 hour of briefing on land and 1 hour in the water.  You will start in a shallow, controlled area of West Hawk Lake where you will have a chance to practice some skills and get acquainted with the equipment.  If you are comfortable we will be able to dive around the dive site to a maximum depth of 40 feet.

Additional fees will apply.

Knowledge development can be done in one of two ways:

  1. Take our Home Study/Classroom Program: Complete your academics with a text book and an online video, which your PADI instructor will explain how to properly use for building your diving knowledge. We’ll work with you throughout the course to help explain key concepts and answer any questions. All quizzes and reviews will be completed in person.
  2. Take our eLearning Option: We provide you with an access code that allows you to go online and take the online (eLearning) course for knowledge development. It is important to realize that both the Home Study and the eLearning approaches allow you to progress at your own speed and to do your learning at the times that are best for you; the flexibility of these programs is what has made them so popular.

All of what we learn about SCUBA diving is taught and practiced in a controlled, pool-like environment.  We have two options for confined water:

  1. Learn in the pool: Expect to be in the pool for 1 hour per night for 5 nights. Your instructor will meet with you before and after each pool session to discuss what you’ll be learning and answer any questions.
  2. Shallow area of West Hawk Lake: We can complete the skills over two days; either a weekend or during the week.  Offered from July to mid-September when the water temperature is warm.

At Diver City SCUBA, we believe in keeping class sizes small to ensure you have plenty of one on one time with your instructor.

During one of the confined water sessions, you will be required to swim 200m with no swimming aids (or 300m with a mask, snorkel and fins), as well as float or tread water for 10 minutes.

Open Water Dives consist of four different SCUBA dives done in the ocean, a lake, river or another natural body of water. During your open water dives, you will practice the skills you learned in confined water, and explore the underwater world along with your instructor. There are different options for your open water dives:

1. Local:

If you are doing your full Open Water certification through Diver City SCUBA, we use West Hawk Lake, approximately 90 minutes east of Winnipeg, as our Open Water dive location. Diving locally is seasonal and is done between June and October each year. West Hawk Lake offers lots of great dive sites to explore as well as training areas to practice your skills.

2. On a Diver City SCUBA Trip:

Or join us on one of our planned trips;  Get away with Diver City SCUBA on a trip and complete your full certification with just 1 dive shop.  We’ll happily complete your full Open Water certification anywhere we are headed.  Additional fees may apply depending on location.  Check out our travel page to see where we are headed next!

3. Any Other PADI Dive Centre World-Wide:

If West Hawk Lake isn’t your ideal dive location, you can do your 4 Open Water dives with any PADI instructor anywhere in the world, like Hawaii, Mexico, Australia or the Caribbean! This is a great option if you are planning or already have a winter vacation booked to somewhere warm. PADI’s global network makes this possible through the Referral Program recognized all around the world. With the referral program, Diver City’s price is reduced and there will be a fee charged by your destination dive centre to complete the open water dives (fees vary from dive centre to dive centre).

So you have Knowledge Development (Home Study or eLearning), Confined Water Training where you’ll learn all your in-water skills, and four open water dives. That’s it! Simple, fun, and the beginning of your underwater adventures.

Become a PADI certified diver today and open the door to a whole new world!

Open Water SCUBA Instructor

Open Water SCUBA Instructor

Are you ready to join the ranks of the dedicated professionals who teach the world’s most progressive and popular scuba diver education programs? Then Go PRO with an Instructor Development Course.

The Instructor Development Course (IDC) is made up of two parts – the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. Most dive professionals complete the entire IDC and go on to attend an Instructor Examination (IE), which is the final step to earn a PADI Instructor certification.

Successfully completing just the AI course results in a PADI Assistant Instructor qualification. When an AI is ready to progress, attending an OWSI program allows entry into an IE to earn a full PADI Instructor rating.

A PADI Divemaster who has been a certified diver for six months may enroll in the PADI Instructor Development Course. You also need:

You also need to be an Emergency First Response Instructor, but you can earn this rating during your instructor training.

What will you learn?

Over a few classroom and pool sessions, and typically one day at West Hawk Lake, the IDC teaches you to conduct all PADI core courses. You’ll be able to organize and present information, conduct skill development sessions and control open water dives. Basically, you become a better public speaker and get really good at demonstrating skills while watching out for student diver safety. Key topics include:

  • PADI Standards and Procedures for courses you can teach with in water workshops
  • Learning, Instruction and the PADI System
  • Risk Management and Diver Safety
  • The Business of Diving and your role as an instructor
  • Marketing Diving and Sales Counseling
